The judge issues a ruling

Under G.L. c. 209A, the plaintiff must prove — by a preponderance of the evidence — both a qualifying relationship (family or household member, or a substantive dating relationship) and "abuse" — physical harm, a reasonable fear of imminent serious physical harm, or coerced sexual relations.
